A very common experience following brain injury is an increase in anger and frustration. Frustration at not being able to walk, or talk or write or complete any number of activities that previously were second nature. In addition to this, there is potentially damage to the part of the brain that monitors, controls and tempers angry outburst, which can all lead to volatility.
In the anger management module we discuss healthy and appropriate ways to express frustration and explore how unhealthy anger can negatively impact relationships. The discussions are very much rooted in participants’ daily experiences as the group again becomes a support network and safe space to confide in people who understand.
